Rick Spencer has spent over two-thirds of his life immersed in barbershop harmony. Spencer joined the Barbershop Harmony Society at age 10 and has dedicated most of his life to teaching others about the barbershop art form.
Spencer is an active music coach and clinician, and travels the world coaching, giving lectures, workshops, and master classes exposing both music educators and students of all ages to the benefits and wonders of barbershop harmony. He has presented at state, regional, and national music education conferences and has been published in several music education publications.
Spencer has taught music in public school, and spent 12 years working for the Barbershop Harmony Society Headquarters in several key leadership positions, including serving as its Director of Music & Education where Spencer had oversight of the Society’s music education and youth outreach programs.
An active quartet singer, Spencer has won numerous district-level awards and has placed as high as 4th in international competition. Spencer is a Music Judge for the Barbershop Harmony Society, Associate Director for Nashville’s own Music City Chorus, and a published arranger of men’s and women’s a cappella choral music.
Originally from Connecticut, Spencer holds degrees in music and music education from the University of Connecticut. When he’s not doing music, Spencer loves spending time with his wife Heather and their combined family of six children!
